Chios Island (Greek: Χίος, Turkish: Sakız Adası) is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, located opposite Turkey's Çeşme district. With an area of 842.5 km² and approximately 52,000 inhabitants, it is just a 35-minute ferry ride from Çeşme port.
Mastic tree resin is a unique natural product that grows only in the south of Chios Island. For thousands of years, mastic has been used in gum, medicine, cosmetics, and cuisine. The island takes its Turkish name (Sakız) from this resin.
